The mission of The Project I Am:

The Project I Am is an art show/art sale/musical performance to support the Gay-Straight Alliance Network by:

a.  Providing a venue for high school students and artists in San Francisco to say or show what they want to about their identity.

b.  Conducting an art sale from which all proceeds will go to the Gay-Straight Alliance Network, so that they can continue to give teens a safe place to speak in schools about gender identity and sexual orientation, educate school communities on homophobia, gender identity and sexual orientation issues, and fight discrimination, harassment and violence in schools.

c.  Giving the public a chance to meet GSA Reps and learn about what they are doing.

The Project I Am was started in December of 2009 by Emma Schacter, an Urban School senior.

My name is Emma Schacter. I am a senior in high school at the Urban School of San Francisco and I am the founder of the Project I Am. Here at Urban, we have a service learning program that allows us to take action and ownership in support of a cause that we are passionate about.

I have been an advocate for the GSA Network for 5 years and an artist for my whole life.  I dabble in painting, photography, printmaking and music. This project is a chance for me to merge the things I am most passionate about.
